September 28, 2024. 2 sessions:
10-noon
1pm-3pm
Your workshop host is René Williams, artist and owner of 4th Street Studios and founder of the nonprofit Science Loves Art. René is a multimedia artist who loves experimenting with unique materials and nature to create art and experiences.
The cyanotype process was discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1842 using photo-sensitized paper and UV light, but it was a family friend Anna Atkins who was the first to use them in a series of published books cataloging her magical Prussian blue botanical imagery beginning in 1843.
We will learn the timeless process of botanical printing that Anna Atkins used, and then expand on that to create completely modern artful cyanotypes exploring the additions of texture and color to the images in fun ways. You are sure to make fun exciting discoveries all throughout this process creating completely one-of-a-kind art prints that are truly like magic every time they are developed!
These prints can be given an encaustic or cold wax finish!
