On the evening of August 27th unknown suspects severely damaged multiple plants, trees and foliage at the Botanic Gardens and S. Lions Park. It is believed that a machete or large knife was used to cut down many of the plants. “It is sad that there are people who delight in destruction. This represents thousands of hours of hard work by volunteers and staff. It came at a time when the Gardens were at their peak. With fall coming soon they won’t grow back,” said Botanic Gardens Director, Shane Smith. The Gardens encourage people who witness any suspicious activity in the park, or notice people in Lions park after curfew (12:00 am to 5:00 am), to call the police at 307−637−6500.
