The
Dry Streambed landscape on the grounds of the Cheyenne Botanic
Gardens begins at the top of a hill adjacent to our
south community
garden. The large boulders for this landscape were donated by
Granite Canyon Quarry.
Much of this landscape demonstrates lower water-use plants on the
mounds near the streambed. Along the streambed, we have placed more
water loving plants. This landscape is our best example of a
landscape that provides interest in all seasons with plants that
have interesting winter color, such as red-twig dogwoods and
evergreens. Look for spring-blooming iris blooming along with
ornamental grasses, native mountain mahogany, sedums, sage, ground
covers and a vertical sundial.
This streambed does not have any
running water except when it captures drainage from occasional rain
or snow. Someday in the future, we plan to convert this landscape to
have permanent running water.
