South Community Garden
Don't judge each day by the
harvest you reap,
but by the
seeds you plant.
- Robert Louis Stevenson
The
Cheyenne Botanic Gardens, Community Garden South is placed on an
area that was Cheyenne's first reservoir. You can still see the
historic wall along the garden's perimeter fence. Plots are tended
by volunteers of the Gardens who are in need of gardening space as
well as members from the local community. There is also a small
nursery that propagates woody plant material for the grounds.

This garden also includes a demonstration of a wheelchair accessible
orchard. This is a concept first explored at Kansas State University
through their Horticultural Therapy Program. The plants can be
totally accessed by someone in a wheelchair. Thus, wheelchair bound
individuals can provide for all the maintenance needs of the
orchard.

The South Community garden provides surplus food to senior
volunteers and also includes a cut flower garden for floral displays
throughout the summer.
Below are the steps to the S. Community Garden which was
constructed thanks to local Boy Scout, Scott Coffin working on an
Eagle Scout Badge.
